Paul & Co at FachPack 2019
The dynamic company understands service to encompass communication and communication technologies, product development and manufacturing, and logistics management. The technological and infrastructural prerequisites for seamless interaction between all of the company’s worldwide locations and the specialists based there were planned and implemented years ago. This has resulted in an outstandingly flexible, global enterprise that boasts a sustainable value-added network, which enables it to deliver the top performance required in this automated industry.
Fascinated by the future
At this year's FachPack, Paul & Co will present Strategy 2025, its strategy for the future, which focuses on its worldwide market presence. With its 13 networked locations in Europe and Asia, Paul & Co can supply paper cores, edge protectors and core board to every continent and country, easily, reliably and rapidly. The medium-sized company headquartered in Wildflecken/Rhön, Germany, has set itself up for the future by making enormous investments in its production plants, R&D, logistics buildings, and IT departments at all its locations. Together with Papeteries du Rhin, which also belongs to the Group, the company's own paper mill Carl Macher will break through the 300,000 tonnes of core board per year mark by 2020. There alone, a sum of over 10 million euros was invested in automation and logistics in order to ensure that Paul & Co will continue to be able to supply its own paper core plants, as well as external customers in Europe, with its own top-quality core board.
Product innovations at FachPack 2019
For this year’s edition of the FachPack trade fair, Paul & Co has plenty of product innovations in store, which will make a clear statement about the versatility of paper cores and the many available surface finish options. One of these innovations is the self-sticking stretch film core, which enables rolls to be changed in automated stretch film production lines by means of a magazine feed, even while the line is running at full speed. Designed to be wound with stretch foil of between 10 and 35 μm, this new core is the first to be made available to the market for mass production with a ‘sticky note’ surface finish. This surface finish prevents the cores from sticking together in the dispenser, while also ensuring that the film adheres immediately once it is wound onto the core. This spares the stretch film manufacturer the cumbersome work step of applying adhesive tape and ensures that the foil unrolls entirely without any wastage. The new feature not only lowers production and disposal costs; it benefits the environment.
The hygiene core with long-term contamination protection: With its completely newly developed hygiene core equipped with an active antibacterial protective wall, Paul & Co has set a new standard for paper cores for hygiene-sensitive applications both internationally and in terms of the raw materials employed to produce them. A unique surface impregnation prevents and eliminates bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus for up to three months. This preventive protection against contamination has been repeatedly proven in laboratory testing. It was tested in accordance with the JIS L 1902 (detection of antibacterial activity and efficacy on textile products) and JIS S2801 standards. This method is used to quantify the antibacterial efficacy of materials treated with non-diffusing antibacterial agents. Efficacy tests in accordance with AATCC100 were also successfully completed.
Sustainable by conviction
At Paul & Co, sustainability refers not only to the entire product range and the raw material employed – which consists of 100% recovered paper – but also to environmentally friendly production and disposal at all company sites. The company's two paper mills operate with very low water and primary energy consumption when compared to the rest of the industry. The Papeteries du Rhin paper mill, for example, has managed to become almost CO2-neutral by meeting about 80% of its energy needs with district heating. Meanwhile, at Carl Macher, very low pollution levels have been achieved by systematically modernising its energy generation and wastewater systems.
